In fact, you only need 3 basic ingredients. Filling is up to you! Just incorporate a source of protein (of animal or plant origin), a variety of vegetables, and a few condiments. This wrapper recipe can easily be doubled or even tripled. A larger quantity of wrappers will allow you to make dumplings and keep them in your freezer for future use. To save a few minutes, you could also buy wonton wrappers at the grocery store. They can be found in the fruit and vegetable section or in the frozen products section of most supermarkets. Kneaded dumpling dough can be frozen immediately. Simply sprinkle cornstarch between each wrapper, then make a stack. Keep them in a sealed container until ready to use. However, you’ll have to thaw them in the refrigerator beforehand. Try these vegan dumplings or these pork and leek dumplings! Preparation Switch to cook mode Pâte à dumplings Step 1 In a large bowl, mix the flour and the salt. Step 2 Add the water. Using a fork, moisten the flour. Step 3 Once the dough starts to clump, knead with your hands until it is homogeneous and smooth. This step can be done directly in the bowl. Step 4 Then, cover the dough ball with a plastic wrap. Set aside at room temperature for 15 minutes. Step 5 Knead the dough again in the same bowl. Cover with the plastic wrap, and set aside for at least 45 minutes. Step 6 Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Step 7 Sprinkle a work surface with cornstarch. Roll out each part of dough one at a time until they are thin (1mm). Add cornstarch if necessary. Note: cover the parts that are not being kneaded with a plastic wrap so they don’t dry out. Step 8 Using a cookie cutter or a glass of 12 cm (4″) diameter, cut out as many wrappers as possible with each dough. Set aside, covered. Note: you can gather up the scraps and knead again to make more wrappers, but no more than 2 times. Step 9 Repeat the last steps with the other dough parts until you get about 60 round dumpling wrappers. Step 10 Use the wrappers immediately or freeze them. Like it? Share it!
