In a large bowl, mix the ground meat with cinnamon, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
*For a finer ground meat, pass the meat through a food processor and pulse for a few seconds.
In a non-stick skillet over medium heat, soften the onions for about 5 minutes or until translucent.
Add the meat. Continue cooking, breaking it into small pieces with a heat-resistant rigid spatula. Drain if needed*.
*If a large amount of liquid starts to accumulate in the pan, gently tilt it to remove the excess fat.
Add the poultry seasoning and beef broth. Simmer over low heat for about 50 minutes or until the broth is completely absorbed.
Add Italian breadcrumbs and anise. Season to taste.
When serving, place the ground beef mixture in a lightly toasted hot dog bun and add ketchup (or homemade ketchup) and thin slices of onion.
